World Pulmonary Hypertension Day 2018

World Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) Day is an annual, global event to raise awareness of PH.

Every year on the 5th May, people all over the world come together to participate in activities for World PH Day. Patients, families and friends, along with patient groups and organisations, participate in awareness-raising events. The goal is to bring worldwide attention to the disease, raise awareness of the condition and celebrate the lives of people living with PH.

Among the many awareness-raising events that were held this year, Actelion took part through sponsoring a World PH Day Twitter Chat with an expert team of panellists on Friday 4th May using the hashtag #ActOnPAH. The Tweet Chat discussed issues affecting the PH community and the panel answered questions live.

The multi-disciplinary panel included Dr Luke Howard, Consultant Pulmonologist and lead of the PH Service at Hammersmith Hospital, Wendy Gin-Sing, Clinical Nurse Specialist in PH at Hammersmith Hospital, Pulmonary Hypertension Association UK (PHA UK) and a patient with PH. The chat was facilitated by Mark Duman, Patient Advocate and Digital Health Specialist.

The panel, along with healthcare professionals and those affected by the condition, shared their views on:

>The importance of early diagnosis and the associated challenges
> Living with PH and the impact it has on day-to-day life
> Raising awareness of the condition and what more could be done
> Activities for #WorldPHDay

The twitter chat had a wide reach, with 459,772 impressions.

Thank you to those who participated or followed the conversation live on twitter. If you missed it you can search #ActOnPAH to see the thread.

The World PH Day Twitter Chat was organised and funded by Actelion Pharmaceuticals UK Ltd.
